SWAT ROLL in NOLA ends with murder suspect shooting self


NEW ORLEANS – Members of the Multi-Agency Task Force received information that 25-year-old Kernell Harrell who was wanted for murder was inside of a room at the New Orleans Inn located at 5035 Chef Menteur Highway.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., the officers knocked on the motel room door. The suspect looked out of the window while armed with a gun and he refused to come out.
After five and a half hours of negotiations, the suspect, Kernell Harrell shot himself with his handgun. Harrell was transported to the hospital where he died.
Harrell was wanted for the shooting death of his girlfriend, 23-year-old Melissa Hunter. The incident occurred last week inside of a residence in the 3600 block of Metropolitan Street.
