Suspect Arrested for Attempted Murder, Aggravated Battery by

Shooting, Assault & Criminal Damage to Property

NEW ORLEANS – With assistance from the NOPD Violent Offenders Warrant Squad

(VOWS) and a Crimestoppers tip, Seventh District officers arrested Yasean Upton (DOB: 04-20-2001) today (May 30, 2018) for multiple violent offenses including attempted murder and aggravated battery by shooting.

Upton was identified as the perpetrator of an aggravated battery by shooting that occurred in the 14000 block of Emory Road on May 11, 2018, at approximately 1:17 a.m. Upton reportedly fired multiple gunshots through the victim’s residence, striking the victim on the right side of her neck.

As the investigation progressed, Upton was also identified as the perpetrator of an attempted murder incident that occurred in the 8000 block of Buffalo Road later the same night at approximately 2:21 a.m. Upton allegedly fired multiple gunshots through another victim’s vehicle window, striking a male victim in the head multiple times. As the victim attempted to seek help, Upton allegedly approached him a second time and struck him with the head of the handgun.

With the help of a Crimestoppers tip, Upton was apprehended by VOWS officers today at approximately 9:30 a.m. at a residence in the 7800 block of Bass Street. He was transported to Central Lockup and booked for attempted murder, aggravated battery by shooting, aggravated battery, aggravated assault and two counts of aggravated criminal damage to property.

In addition to the aforementioned charges, Upton was also booked with an armed robbery of a firearm in connection with an incident that occurred in the Third District on May 13, 2018.
