One Arrested, One Wanted in Armed Carjacking on Josephine Street
NEW ORLEANS – NOPD officers apprehended Wayne Fountain (DOB: 01-28-1996) on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, in connection with an armed carjacking that occurred in the Sixth District.
On Saturday, May 19, 2018, at or around 7:10 a.m., Sixth District officers responded to a call of an armed carjacking that occurred in the 2600 block of Josephine Street. Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated that he was walking toward his 2001 black Toyota Tundra, bearing Louisiana license plate #C56277, when a silver sedan, occupied by two unknown males, passed him prior to stopping in front of his residence.
The first perpetrator, who was later identified as the arrested subject, approached the victim’s vehicle and pointed a silver pistol at his face and demanded his car keys. The victim complied and the subject entered the vehicle and fled the scene, heading in a southbound direction.
During the course of the investigation, Sixth District detective Paul Pettengill obtained surveillance footage and observed a silver sedan following behind the victim’s stolen vehicle as they fled. Detective Pettengill obtained a partial license plate and vehicle make from the surveillance footage of the silver sedan and learned that the arrested subject had been stopped in January of 2018 inside of the silver vehicle in question, a Honda Accord bearing Louisiana license plate #609AYF.
On May 29, 2018, Sixth District officers conducted a traffic stop in the 900 block of North Claiborne Avenue. Officers executed a search warrant on the vehicle and located a loaded 9 millimeter Ruger, a silver and black semi-automatic pistol, a book sack which contained a black hoodie, black face mask, extended magazine, two smartphones and property belonging to the victim of the carjacking.
Officers later identified Odell Allen (DOB: 02-14-1999) as the second perpetrator involved in this incident. An arrest warrant was obtained for Allen on the charge of armed robbery with a firearm. Fountain was transported to Central Lockup where he was charged with armed robbery with a firearm, convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property.
