|BICYCLIST KILLED AFTER DISREGARDING RED LIGHT|
|NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is investigating a traffic fatality that claimed the life of a 70-year-old male bicyclist. The incident occurred last night shortly after 11:00 p.m., near the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Claiborne Avenue.
According to witnesses, the bicyclist was traveling northbound on Martin Luther King Boulevard when for reasons unknown, disregarded a red light and collided with a gray Ford F-150 pick-up truck traveling eastbound on South Claiborne Avenue. The truck was being driven by a 35-year-old off-duty New Orleans Police Officer who was on his way home after the end of his shift. The bicyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. The off-duty officer was not injured in the crash.
The Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death. Blood and toxicology tests are pending.
The incident remains under investigation.
