The incident happened on June 9, 2018. At about 3 a.m., the above-pictured subject started a fight with a victim and produced a knife in the 800 block of St. Louis Street. The suspect then cut the victim and fled the scene.

NOPD Searches for Suspect Wanted in Armed Robbery on Dumaine Street

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking assistance from the public in identifying and locating the pictured subject after he robbed two victims at gunpoint in the Eighth District.

The incident happened on Sunday, June 10, 2018, at or around 11:08 p.m. The victims were walking onto Dumaine Street when they were approached from behind by the suspect, who raised a weapon and pointed it at the victims’ head and demanded their property. The victims complied and the suspect fled the scene.

NOPD Investigates Homicide by Cutting on Mandeville Street

June 10, 2018

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is investigating a homicide in the 3300 block of Mandeville Street.

At around 9:22 a.m., Third District officers responded to shots fired in the area. Once on scene, officers discovered a deceased male victim inside of a residence suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds at the time and a second male subject suffering from injuries.

Through the course of the initial investigation, officers determined that the deceased victim sustained injuries related to being cut and was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS. Officers also determined that shots were fired but no one suffered from any gunshot wounds during the incident.

The second male victim was transported to the hospital with minor injuries by EMS.

Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause of death and release the victim’s name, upon completion of autopsy and notification of family.

The investigation is still ongoing.

Duo Wanted for 18 Counts of Theft by Fraud on Behrman Place

NEW ORLEANS –The NOPD is searching for Jeffrey Johnston (DOB: 01/24/70) and Leilani Walther (DOB: 01/16/69), who are wanted for 18 counts of theft by fraud.

The above-pictured suspects were observed on surveillance video on May 25, 2018, using false UPC (Universal Product Codes) labels to purchase merchandise at a lesser value at the Walmart in the 4000 block of Behrman Place. The above suspects are believed to have carried UPC labels into the store which were cut from merchandise packages of lesser amounts. They then completed the transactions via the self-check lanes.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Johnston and Walther committed theft by fraud on numerous occasions at the location.

NOPD Searching for Stolen Vehicle Linked to Several Vehicle Burglaries

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking assistance from the public in locating a stolen vehicle that is believed to have been used in the commission of several vehicle burglaries in the past several days in the Second and Sixth districts.

On Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at about 4:55 p.m., a silver 2007 Honda CRV SUV bearing Louisiana license plate # RPF621 was reported stolen from the 7000 block of Pritchard Place.

NOPD Second District detectives believe that, subsequent to the auto theft, the same Honda CRV has been used by the perpetrators of several vehicle burglaries in the Second and Sixth districts. These include:

  • June 6, 2018, at about 5:50 p.m. in the 500 block of General Taylor Street.
  • June 7, 2018, at about 4:55 p.m. in the 5500 block of South Johnson Street.
  • June 7, 2018, at about 5:14 p.m. in the 5600 block of Laurel Street.
  • June 8, 2018, at about 11:45 a.m. in the 6500 block of Magazine Street.

Through investigations, detectives have determined that that most, if not all, of the above incidents involved vehicles which had been left unlocked.

The public is reminded to lock all vehicle doors, remove spare keys (e.g. valet keys) and to either remove from the vehicle items that may attract attention or conceal these items from view.

NOPD Searches for Subject in Eighth District Armed Robbery

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is searching for a subject in an Eighth District armed robbery.

On Sunday, June 3, 2018 around 9:30 p.m. an armed robbery with an implied weapon occurred in the 100 block of Exchange Alley.

The wanted subject, described as an unknown black male, approached two victims and demanded their purses while clutching his waist band as if he had a weapon. The victim’s complied and the subject fled the scene on Exchange Place towards Canal Street.

NOPD VOWS Arrest Suspect in Homicide on Pauger Street

NEW ORLEANS – Members of the NOPD’s Violent Offenders Warrant Squad (June 6) arrested Leo Tate III (DOB:08/04/93) yesterday for second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder.

The incident occurred in the 2100 block of Pauger Street on February 16, 2018. Fifth District officers responded to a call of shots fired just after 6 p.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered one adult female victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The female victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers also located a second male juvenile victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition at the time of the incident.

Through the course of the investigation, Leo Tate III was identified as the perpetrator in the incident.

Juvenile Arrested for Multiple Offenses, Possession of

NEW ORLEANS – Officers in the Seventh District have arrested a 15-year-old juvenile male for aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated criminal damage to property and illegal possession of a handgun.

The incident happened on May 26, 2018. At about 11 a.m., Seventh District officers were called to investigate an aggravated assault in the 14000 block of Curran Boulevard. Once on scene, officers learned from the victim that a juvenile perpetrator allegedly shot at the victim with an assault rifle.

Through the course of the investigation, officers identified the juvenile and the U.S. Marshall’s Office apprehended the juvenile during a wanted check at his residence on Bass Street on June 6. During execution of the search warrant, the pictured items were recovered from the location along with a 2002 Toyota Highlander SUV, which was reported stolen earlier that day.

The juvenile was additionally arrested in connection with three separate incidents including aggravated criminal damage to property, illegal possession of marijuana and stolen property.

The suspect was transported to the Juvenile Detention Center, where he was booked accordingly.

At about 4:41 a.m., the pictured subjects are believed to have stolen the wiring from air conditioning units at the St. Gabriel Church.

Vehicle Reported Stolen from Evelina Street

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking assistance from the public in locating a vehicle reported stolen from the 1300 block of Evelina Street on June 3, 2018.

The victim told police that about 2:50 a.m., he stopped near his residence to gather items from inside, leaving the keys to his blue 2004 Honda Accord bearing Louisiana license plate 305BZO in the ignition with the engine off and doors unlocked. When he returned about 10 minutes later, he discovered the vehicle to be missing.

The vehicle is further described as having a dent in the rear of the vehicle, with the front bumper not properly secured.

A photo is included of a vehicle similar in color, year, make and model to the reported stolen vehicle.
