NOPD Arrests Suspect on Gun, Drug, Stolen Vehicle Charges

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD has arrested Quang Nguyen (DOB: 12-24-1978) on multiple charges stemming from a traffic stop in the Seventh District.

At about 4:31 a.m., Seventh District officers conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Alcee Fortier Street and Chef Menteur Highway. During the stop, the officers detained the vehicle’s driver, later identified as Nguyen. Officers also observed a shotgun as well as narcotics in plain view inside of the vehicle. Upon further investigation, officers also discovered a handgun under the driver’s seat of the vehicle, which was later found to have been reported stolen.

Nguyen was arrested and booked into the Orleans Parish Justice Center for possession of drug paraphernalia, illegal carrying of a weapon while in possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and traffic-related charges.

Suspects Arrested in Double Shooting on Union Street

NEW ORLEANS – Jerald Bordere (DOB: 07-21-1999), along with two family members, was arrested in St. Bernard Parish yesterday (February 26, 2018) in connection with a double shooting in the 700 block of Union Street in New Orleans on February 13, 2018.

At about 3:17 p.m. on February 13, a fight reportedly occurred among a group of approximately 10 individuals on Union Street near Carondelet Street. One man in the group allegedly produced a handgun and fired into the group, striking one victim in the leg and a second victim in the head area. Both victims were transported to an area hospital by EMS. With patrols throughout the area, NOPD was in position to respond immediately to the incident and secure the scene.

Based on a report from a citizen who told police they recognized Jerald Bordere from media reports, St. Bernard Parish Sheriff’s deputies detectives apprehended Jerald Bordere, his brother Christopher Bordere (DOB: 04-07-1997) and mother Tahitian Bordere (DOB not available) at about 11 p.m. on February 26, after the three were located at a Holiday Inn hotel in Chalmette, La.

Jerald Bordere was arrested on scene and booked by St. Bernard Parish as a fugitive on two counts of attempted murder from the NOPD, and also faces charges of illegal carrying of a firearm at a parade/during commission of a violent crime and illegal use of a firearm in the Union Street incident.

Christopher and Tahitian Bordere were each arrested on scene and booked by St. Bernard Parish for accessory after the fact to attempted second degree murder.

During a warranted search of the fugitives’ hotel room with NOPD Eighth District detectives present, investigators found two handguns – one of which was reported stolen out of Jefferson Parish. Each of the three suspects was additionally booked for possession of a stolen firearm. Additional items confiscated in the search were released to the NOPD as evidence.

NOPD detectives also obtained an arrest warrant for Christopher Bordere on two charges of principle to attempted murder, as he was determined to have been at the scene of the double shooting on Union Street. St. Bernard Parish deputies placed an additional hold on Christopher Bordere as a fugitive on that warrant.

All three individuals will be transferred to the Orleans Parish Justice Center and booked accordingly.

NOPD Identifies Second Suspect in Double Shooting on Union Street

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD has obtained an arrest warrant for Jerald Bordere (DOB: 07-21-1999), who has been identified as a suspect in a double shooting in the 700 block of Union Street on February 13, 2018.

At about 3:17 p.m., a fight reportedly occurred among a group of approximately 10 individuals on Union Street near Carondelet Street. One man in the group allegedly produced a handgun and fired into the group, striking one victim in the leg and a second victim in the head area. Both victims were transported to an area hospital by EMS. With patrols throughout the area, NOPD was in position to respond immediately to the incident and secure the scene.

A previous surveillance image released later that day showed one of the suspects, who is believed to be the subject pictured above at left wearing a blue shirt and light colored jeans.

As investigation into the incident progressed, detectives released an image on February 17 taken from surveillance video near the scene showing three individuals who were positively identified for their involvement in this incident.

On February 22, members of the NOPD’s Violent Offender Warrant Squad unit arrested one of the identified suspects, Kentrell Howard (DOB: 12-27-2000). Howard was booked with two counts of principle to attempted murder.

Further investigation led detectives to positively identify Bordere as the perpetrator in this incident. Bordere and the third pictured suspect remain at large.

When located, Bordere will be arrested for two counts of attempted second degree murder, illegal carrying of a firearm at a parade/during commission of a violent crime and illegal use of a firearm.

Investigation into the incident is ongoing. No further details are available at this time.

Man on fire being investigated as homicide

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is investigating a homicide in the Third District.

An unidentified male was discovered burning in the 4600 block of Chef Menteur Highway.

A passing motorist saw the victim on fire and called 911 at 11:34 a.m.

The victim died at the scene.

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying and locating three individuals wanted in connection with a carjacking incident that occurred on February 17, 2018 in the 2900 block of Powhatan Street.

At about 12:36 p.m., the victim was vacuuming the backseat of his white 2010 Toyota Corolla bearing Louisiana Handicapped License Plate H359391. At that time, he was approached from behind by three unknown black males. The victim was thrown to the ground by one of the unknown black males, and the unknown males then entered the victim’s vehicle and fled the location.

The victim described the three suspects as dark skinned black males with short hair styles between 18-23 years of age. An image of the suspects taken from surveillance footage is included with this release.

Duo Wanted for Simple Robbery on South Claiborne Avenue

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking assistance in locating and identifying a male and female subject, pictured below, wanted in connection with a simple robbery incident.

The incident happened on February 8, 2018. The victim entered a store in the 2100 block of South Claiborne Avenue. At that time, a male and female subject also entered the business. The female subject then snatched a large amount of cash from the victim’s hand.

The female and male suspect both walked out of the location in the white compact car also pictured below. At that time, the victim was reportedly struck by the suspects in the vehicle after attempting to retrieve her money.

Lauren Gisele Howard Runaway Juvenile Reported

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking assistance from the public in locating a juvenile female reported as a runaway.

At about 7:45 a.m. on February 6, 2018, Lauren Gisele Howard (DOB: 10-29-2002) was dropped off at Walter L. Cohen High School by her mother. Howard has not returned home and has not been seen or heard from by family since this time.

Howard is described as a black female standing approximately 5’3” and weighing approximately 120 pounds. She was last observed wearing her school uniform – a green polo-style shirt and khaki pants, as well as a gray hooded sweatshirt. Howard was reportedly observed by other students on the school grounds on February 7, but these reports have yet to be verified.

Luis Fernando Nunez Missing Person Reported

NEW ORLEANS – The NOPD is seeking information to assist in locating a man reported as missing.

Luis Fernando Nunez (DOB: 11-27-1970) was last seen on January 19, 2018 at about 6:30 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex off Morrison Road. Nunez’s wife stated that Nunez has disappeared for weeks at a time in the past. After a confrontation between the two in the location on the aforementioned date and time, Nunez has not been seen or heard from since.
